The Orchid Show at the New York Botanical Garden is Open

The 14th Annual Orchid Show, Orchidelirium, is now open at the New York Botanical Garden.

The gorgeous flower show opened on February 27 at NYBG in the Bronx and it features thousands of colorful orchids.

The exhibit also celebrates Orchidelirium, a period in the 19th century when orchid hunters would travel to far off locations, which were sometimes quite dangerous, to find and secure these flowers.

Visitors will also learn about NYBG's efforts to save orchids that have been illegally seized at international borders.

The NYBG website states, "Visitors will be treated to displays of thousands of orchids as they grow in the wild, in much the same way as the Victorian explorers first encountered them—cascading from branches, nestled in crevices, and reaching up from beneath rain forest trees."

The exhibit features dance performances, poetry, shopping, and orchid care demonstrations. Visitors can also take part in Orchid Evenings, where the gardens stays open late and adults can walk through the exhibit while sipping on cocktails. It makes for the perfect date-night location. For adults 21 and older.
