Parent Craft Support System for New Parents Opens in Park Slope

Parent Craft, a community hub for new and expecting parents in Park Slope, recently opened its doors. The support system aims to bring together couples in the community who are about to become parents. Parent Craft is founding member of the Parent Craft Collective, a group of local businesses that offer a variety of services for new and expecting parents.

Founded by Casey Selzer, CNM, RN, LCCE, Parent Craft offers pregnancy, birth, and postpartum classes in an intimate setting—Labor + Birth classes are limited to five couples.

In addition to the birthing class, Parent Craft offers Fourth Trimester, which helps parents prepare for the first few weeks after birth, and Breast-Feeding and Newborn Support. It also offers private sessions covering a range of topics, including preparing for twins and a childbirth refresher.

“I started Parent Craft to empower more families to have a satisfying birth experience, and feel confident in the foundation they are building for the first year of parenthood,” Selzer says. “As a midwife, over the course of attending 600 births and working first-hand in hospital and birth center settings around the city, I have gathered wisdom from women, mentors and families.”

Parent Craft also offers a room dedicated to prenatal visits by Community Midwifery Care, a staff of certified midwives who provide a range of pregnancy and postpartum support. The main goal of the midwives is to allow parents to know that each pregnancy experience will be different for every family and that is okay.
