Bye-Bye Training Wheels!

One of the many important milestones we celebrate with our children is when they learn to ride a bike without training wheels. This photo essay follows a 5-year-old as the training wheels are taken off his bike and he learns to ride a two-wheeler.

Get Ready…  Before my husband, Aaron, took the training wheels off 5-year-old Kaspar’s bike, he offered our son reassurance. Kaspar wanted to help. The fact that he got to use daddy’s tools distracted him from any apprehension he may have felt.

Get Set…  Aaron gives Kaspar critical last-minute advice—how to stop!

A Little Moral Support  Aaron whispered “Okay, here we go!” as Kaspar got his balance. I adore this shot. I was more nervous than he was, that’s for sure!

1, 2, 3, Go!  In a flash, Kaspar was off, and Aaron was, well, running! Aaron told me later how exciting this ‘wow’ moment was, but also bittersweet. How could it be that our baby boy was riding a big-kid bike?!
