Portledge Summer Adventures, Portledge School’s summer camp, is launching two new programs for children ages 2-15. The school is situated on a 60-acre campus that features a sports complex, science center, and modern performance area.

Summer Adventures will add Language Immersion with class instruction in Spanish, French, and Mandarin during which children can explore the music, dance, food, and art of diverse cultures. The class will include a cooking lesson, an art lesson, a field trip, and a final student performance, to which parents and friends are invited. It will run for three weeks beginning July 13 for campers entering first through sixth grades

“The purpose is to expose younger children to a program that’s going to give them the opportunity to converse using their language skills rather than just learning syntax and conjugation,” says Melissa Worth, camp director.

Summer Adventures is also introducing Sports Academy, which will run June 22-July 31. Sports Academy will offer basketball, baseball, lacrosse, volleyball, golf, and soccer. Suitable for children ages 6-12, it will focus on skill development and strength conditioning, and provide students “the opportunity to learn a new sport in a less competitive environment,” Worth says.

Enrollment for these programs and others—including a six-week drama program for children ages 5-12, in which students will perform Peter Pan—will begin in February.

Families are invited to attend an open house on Sunday March 8, to get acquainted with the school’s campus and facilities.
