Powerhouse Dance Center Moves to Accommodate More Students

The dance studio offers a wide array of classes from beginner to advanced.

Powerhouse Dance Center, previously located in West Haverstraw, moved to a new location in Stony Point in order to fit its roster of 350 students. The dance studio, which officially opened on Sept. 7, offers classes for children 2 years old to adult. The studio offers classes from beginner level to advanced, encompassing a wide array of styles including ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, lyrical, pointe, contemporary, acro, and combo classes for toddlers.

The new, state-of-the-art facility is 12,000-square-feet and comfortably accommodates the dance center's climbing enrollment. Owners Melissa Smith and Joe Avallone, who were previously a competition dance duo, opened up the studio six years ago in West Haverstraw with 25 students It has since grown to over 350 students with a competition team. Smith and Avallone both earned their certifications through Dance Educators of America, Inc.

“We are excited to provide a place for our students to learn dance technique in a positive environment all while having fun and building self-confidence," says Smith. "We encourage each student to be the best they can be and to strive to reach his or her own optimum level of performance. Above all else, our students experience life enrichment through the joy of dance."
