‘Sesame Street’ Launches its 48th Season

The 48th season of Sesame Street just launched. We attended the New York City premiere kicking it off to see what Elmo, Abby Caddaby, Rosita, and Cookie Monster love to do in the Big Apple.

The new season of Sesame Street includes visits from celebrities such as Lucy Liu, Kate McKinnon, Ellie Goulding, Josh Groban, John Legend, Leon Bridges, Alessia Cara, and Olympic gymnast Laurie Hernandez.

The season launched with an hour-long special featuring Elizabeth Banks. “The Magical Wand Chase,” follows Sesame Street characters and Banks as they visit three different neighborhoods in New York City to show the importance of kindness.

A new segment called “Cookie Monster’s Foodie Truck,” will also be introduced this season. In the segment Cookie and his friend Gonger will prepare different foods and visit the source of the foods in order to explain where each one comes from.

“The stories this season focus on cultivating cultural competencies, which are important prosocial skills for school readiness and for life—and they’re more vital now than ever,” said Dr. Rosemarie Truglio, SVP Content and Curriculum, Sesame Workshop, in a press release. “By modeling constructive ways to experience difference and show compassion, we hope to give kids the tools they need to develop empathy by taking on the perspectives of others, appreciating differences while recognizing fundamental similarities.”

“Compassion and community make up the fabric of every Sesame Street episode,” said Brown Johnson, EVP and Creative Director, Sesame Workshop, in the press release. “The new season centers around celebrating cultural and individual differences and resolving conflicts in a uniquely Sesame way. We aim to build those skills in young audiences and hope they’ll be a generation of peacemakers.”

We were lucky enough to get to talk to the Elmo, Abby Caddaby, Rosita, and Cookie Monster at the Sesame Street premiere kicking off the 48th season. Take a look at what they had to say about what their favorite things to do in New York City area.
