Summer Camps That Offer Counselor-In-Training Programs for Campers in Westchester County

Find a CIT program for your teen in Westchester County.

If your child has aged out of camp (why can’t they stay little forever?!) but wants to stay in the camp environment, why not get them to apply for a CIT program? Young adults who become camp counselors gain valuable skills in their experience as a camp counselor that translate to the professional world, including communication skills and teamwork, leadership skills and responsibility, time management, and problem solving. With all these benefits, enrolling in a counselor-in-training program at a summer day camp is a no brainer! We’ve compiled a list of summer camps in Westchester County that offer CIT programs for tweens and teens, including day camps in White Plains, Hartsdale, Larchmont, Southfield, Pleasantville, West Nyack, Pomona, New Rochelle, and Tarrytown.

Camp Clio

Held at YMCA Camp Jewell 6 Prock Hill Road Colebrook, CT

A CIT program is run by our host camp during the last two weeks of Camp Clio Youth. CITs who are adopted are assigned to work in the Camp Clio cabins with adopted children and participate in all adoption activities. Applications can be found at campclio.org.

Camp Nabby

Our Counselor-In-Training program is open to former campers, LITs, and enthusiastic 15-year-old students. As a role model in camp, CITs will be assigned to a junior camp group and asked to assist head and assistant counselors daily, during all group activities.

Camp Ramaquois

Our Counselor Apprentice Program (CAP) is designed for boys and girls entering 10th grade to work with campers of different ages throughout the summer to develop great skills for working with and being role models for children. CAPs also have an opportunity to be campers for half the day.

Challenge Camp

This course is an exceptional opportunity to learn and train to be a counselor in the Challenge Camp environment. The course covers such topics as: camper socialization, assistant teaching and coaching, building self-esteem, and conflict resolution. Then CITs get hands-on experience utilize their new skills assisting campers.

Chelsea Piers Connecticut

Chelsea Piers’ Counselor-in-Training program offers young adults the most comprehensive workplace introduction in Fairfield County. Under the supervision of our CIT Director and the Camp Director, participants learn to work both independently and cooperatively, in a professional and supportive environment.

Destination Science - The FUN Science Day Camp for Kids 5-11!

Multiple Locations in Westchester County

Destination Science Leaders-in-Training program is a hands-on leadership experience for kids entering seventh through 11th grade in the fall of 2019. This is perfect for graduates of Destination Science camp, student body officers, or any students interested in gaining real-world leadership experience.

We are looking for responsible students age 15 and older to help provide a fun, hands-on educational experience for a group of 12-15 children, support our specialists, and serve as a role model and mentor to campers. CIT volunteer opportunities can be counted for community service hours.

Hudson Country Montessori Camp

Hudson’s Counselor in Training program (CIT) is designed to challenge teens to grow as leaders within their camp community. They participate in activities that build their unique leadership skills (team building, positive role modeling, and problem solving) while having the opportunity to earn valuable volunteer hours. Assistant teaching opportunities for dancers age 14 and older with dance experience. Duties include assisting teachers, monitoring lunchtime and activity transitions, learning and supervising choreography.

Westfair Swim Camp

Our CIT program is available to anyone 14 or older who has attended our camp. CITs add a fresh perspective, and integral knowledge of camp and facility.

At the WPPAC Summer Theatre Academy, we take on interns for each of our camp sessions. Interns assist with theatre operations and work on backstage elements for each show. During performances interns are given backstage crew positions. Interns are typically high school students.
