If your child has aged out of camp (why can’t they stay little forever?!) but wants to stay in the camp environment, why not get them to apply for a CIT program? Young adults who become camp counselors gain valuable skills in their experience as a camp counselor that translate to the professional world, including communication skills and teamwork, leadership skills and responsibility, time management, and problem solving. With all these benefits, enrolling in a counselor-in-training program at a summer day camp is a no brainer! We’ve compiled a list of summer camps in Westchester County that offer CIT programs for tweens and teens, including day camps in White Plains, Hartsdale, Larchmont, Southfield, Pleasantville, West Nyack, Pomona, New Rochelle, and Tarrytown.

A CIT program is run by our host camp during the last two weeks of Camp Clio Youth. CITs who are adopted are assigned to work in the Camp Clio cabins with adopted children and participate in all adoption activities. Applications can be found at campclaire.org.

Our Counselor Apprentice Program (CAP) is designed for boys and girls entering 10th grade to work with campers of different ages throughout the summer to develop great skills for working with and being role models for children. CAPs also have an opportunity to be campers for half the day.

Cardinal Baseball Camp has high school aged volunteers that assist the 3-4 staff members in each age group at our camp. They are taught how to work with the campers in a positive way and also learn how to et up and take down equipment for fields.

This course is an exceptional opportunity to learn and train to be a counselor in the Challenge Camp environment. The course covers such topics as: camper socialization, assistant teaching and coaching, building self-esteem, conflict resolution and more. Destination Science Leaders-in-Training program is a hands-on leadership experience for kids entering 7th through 11th grade in the fall of 2018. This is perfect for graduates of Destination Science camp, student body officers, or any students interested in gaining real-world leadership experience.

Mosholu Day Camp

Campers who grow up at Mosholu have an opportunity to learn to become counselors with this fantastic, hands-on program. CITs receive a $200 stipend for successfully completing the summer.

This program is open to students 15 years of age or older with three years prior sailing experience. Completion of ASA, YRA or US Sailing certification program is a plus. Applicants should be mature, responsible and demonstrate leadership skills.
