If your child has aged out of camp (why can’t they stay little forever?!) but wants to stay in the camp environment, why not get them to apply for a CIT program on Long Island? Young adults who become camp counselors gain valuable skills in their experience as a camp counselor that translate to the professional world, including communication skills and teamwork, leadership skills and responsibility, time management, and problem solving. With all these benefits, enrolling in a counselor-in-training program at a summer day camp is a no brainer! Open to boys and girls entering ninth or 10th grade, it is designed to train and prepare them to become a junior counselor. Half of their day will be on-the-job training with a group while the other half consists of training, activities, and trips.

This program is open to teens entering ninth and tenth grade. CITs are required to enroll in Red Cross babysitting, CPR, and first aid workshops onsite, as well as assist in camp groups. They will also participate in field trips that promote team- building skills.
