The Windward School Summer Program Expands to the Upper East Side

The Windward School Summer Program is being offered in Westchester and Manhattan this year.

Starting this year, The Windward School Summer Program will also be offered on the Upper East Side in addition to its traditional White Plains location.

The Windward School Summer Program is for students entering third to ninth grades. It offers academics in the morning and creative arts, sports, and drama activities in the afternoon. The program also features lessons on reading, writing, math, science, technology, and study and organizational skills. The Upper East Side location will follow the same curriculum as the White Plains location.

The Windward School Summer Program provides instructional programming for children who could benefit from the school’s research-based approach to learning. Children do not need to be Windward students to attend. The summer program will run July 2-27 (no class July 4) in White Plains, Westchester and on the Upper East Side, Manhattan with half-day (9am-12:10pm) and full-day (9am-2:45pm) offerings.

“The program is designed for students who can use some support in the summer. They don't necessarily need Windward during the school year, but could use some of the things that we do teach during the school year,” says Chris Eberhard, co-director of the summer program.

According to Eberhard, important aspects of the school's curriculum were extracted in order to help students become more successful over the summer, adding that the program is filling a demand in the metropolitan area.

“With over 200 students last year, we are confident that there is a need in New York City for this type of academic program during the summer,” Eberhard says. “As the creator and developer of this program for more than 15 years, I am excited about the growth of our summer program and look forward to doing the same with our new program in New York City.”

Registration is open to all children entering the third to ninth grades for The Windward School Summer Program 2018. For the first time the program is offering a 10-percent sibling discount.

The Windward School was founded in New Rochelle in 1926 by Isabel Greenbaum, eventually moving to White Plains. The second location opened in 2002, followed by the Upper East Side campus in 2016. The school provides instructional programming for children in first to ninth grade who have language-based learning disabilities such as such as dyslexia and problems with auditory processing. It has two campuses in White Plains, Westchester and one on Manhattan’s Upper East Side.
