Pediatric Behavioral Health Center Opens in Stony Brook

Three Village Behavioral Medicine, a brand new practice founded by James Parles, M.D., P.L.L.C., opened in Stony Brook last month in order to treat children with behavioral issues such as ADHD, anxiety, and depression; one of the first of its kind in Long Island.

Dr. Parles spent 27 years as a general pediatrician as a part of Smithtown Pediatric Group (an Allied Physicians Group associate), prior to opening Three Village Behavioral Medicine.

“Over the years, I became more and more interested and active in treating behavioral health problems, specifically ADHD, anxiety and depression, which are a very large proportion of the chronic problems that kids face in the current landscape,” Dr. Parles said. “And as that became a bigger part of my practice, I also acquired the recognition that for many or most families it’s very hard to find high-quality, affordable care for these problems – so I decided to devote the rest of my career to doing this.”

Due to the amount of time, effort, and energy that each child dealing with these issues needs, it is just not financially sustainable nor do they have enough time, some practices with six to nine month waiting lists, says Dr. Parles. “So I’ve tried to create a subscription plan, private pay model in which after the initial assessment, patients can sign up for my care and pay an affordable monthly fee,” he said. “And for that fee, they get complete care management.”
