Tibetan Care Places Nannies, Doulas, and Home Companions

Tibetan Care recently began offering its nanny, doula, and home companion placement services to families in New York City.

Tibetan Care opened its doors in May and offers Tibetan nanny, doula, and home companion services. Wife-and-husband duo Pema and Eric Sommer, who raised their children with Tibetan and Western influences, founded this agency because Pema is Tibetan and they have both observed an increased need for Tibetan nannies. Pema, who has been working with mothers and children for more than 20 years as a registered nurse and midwife in India and is now a doula and certified lactation counselor, recruits and trains the nannies, and Eric handles the logistics.

The nannies and home companions provide in-home care on a live-in and live-out basis during the day on weekdays and throughout the weekends as needed. New and expecting mothers can hire a nanny, and are eligible for two free postpartum doula sessions.

The nannies are trained using Tibetan cultural tradition which emphasizes gentleness, compassion, and patience. Pema says their service is unique because it combines these values with a western emphasis on professionalism and safety training.

Eric added that the Tibetan Care service also benefits the local Tibetan community. “We are happy to help make a connection between qualified, experienced local Himalayan caregivers and New York families who otherwise would not have access to these providers,” Eric said. “We get to bridge that gap, providing value to both sides.”

All nannies with Tibetan Care are hired and trained by Pema, who gives them background and safety training beforehand and continues to do reinforced training while they become nannies. To hire a caregiver, fill out an inquiry form.
