UPDATED April 2017: Spring is finally here, and it's the perfect time to get outside with the family and celebrate our beautiful planet. Here is our round-up of Earth Day events happening all month, and on Saturday, April 22 in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Long IslandWestchester, and Rockland counties. 

Earth Day Activities in Manhattan

WHAT: Celebrate Earth Day as part of this annual environmental wake-up call event. Activities will include dozens of environmental organizations and campaigns, kids' activities and entertainment, a sharing economy exhibition, local businesses with green projects, a green vehicle exhibition, live performances, and celebrity appearances.

Celebrate Earth Day

WHERE: Children's Museum of the Arts, 103 Charlton St., Greenwich Village  
WHAT: A special Earth Day event: Show your support for the environment by creating artwork out of recyclable or natural materials. You can also get inspired by the artwork in the exhibition Weather or Not, That is the Question, which deals with the mystery of weather, including how artists interpret climate change.

Earth Day Celebration

WHERE: Museum of the City of New York, 1220 Fifth Ave., Harlem  
WHAT: Drop-in for a family celebration in honor of the 47th annual Earth Day. Participate in a scavenger hunt and learn about activism in New York. Enjoy activities, songs, books, and healthy snacks. Then design a pot inspired by the environment, and plant a seed to take home with you. Registration suggested.

Earth Day Activities in Brooklyn

FREE 10th Annual National Grid Earth Day Celebration
WHEN: Saturday, April 29, 3pm
WHERE: Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts at Brooklyn College, 2900 Avenue H, Flatbush
WHAT: Now in its tenth year, this celebration is designed to educate families on how they can play a role in caring for the earth and creating a more sustainable future. Interactive family activities, educational materials, and give-away items will highlight the need for conserving energy, recycling in the home, and having a heightened awareness of the environmental and global issues that we face today.

Family Day Earth Day
WHEN: Saturday, April 22, 11am-2pm
WHERE: Prospect Park Zoo, 450 Flatbush Ave., Prospect Park 
WHAT: Come to the zoo for an earth day celebration and discover how the Wildlife Conservation Society is working to protect wildlife and how you can help! Participants will meet an animal up-close, decorate a flower pot, and engage in other activities around the zoo. Refreshments will be provided.

Celebrate Earth!

WHAT: Celebrate Earth Day at Brooklyn Children’s Museum by visiting the Museum’s new exhibit Wilderness Camp, which focuses on the great outdoors. Build gross motor skills through hands-on play in Neighborhood Nature, which includes a community cork garden, animal habitat dioramas, indoor “beach,” and live animals! Bend your body like a lizard during yoga sessions led by Yo Re Mi. And, join Reynaliz Herrera for a live percussion performance concert featuring original music played from unconventional instruments.

WHEN: Saturday, June 3, 12-5pm
WHERE: McCarren Park, 900 Lorimer St., Williamsburg 
WHAT: Beginning in 2008, Go Green! Greenpoint! was the first Earth Day Festival to take place in North Brooklyn. Since then, this event has become an annual staple of community life. Each year, Go Green! Greenpoint! has grown in participating organizations and businesses, and attendance. Our event includes education with schools, community groups, and companies displaying research, science and art projects that enhance our appreciation and understanding of our environment. Go Green offers Greencycle Swap to recycle and reuse clothing, shoes, books, toys and more. The event hosts a green school contest, wellness with yoga, zumba and other classes, vendors with enviro-friendly merchandise, and live music and dance performances.

WHAT: This nature-themed Spring Kickoff Celebration that will feature community volunteer opportunities, gardening activities, a shoreline cleanup, public programming and the re-opening of the renovated Bocce Ball Court. Other events include live music, fun child-friendly games, prize, and fitness activities.

Macaroni Kid, Perfect Earth Project, and Gimme 5 will have activities for the kids to enjoy and Tesla Motors will also be on site, offering test drives of their Model X and Model S sedan. Union Cantina and Matcha Bar will be providing sustainable refreshments throughout the day as well.

WHAT: Dig in and make a difference this Earth Day. Enjoy a day of volunteer projects and workshops where you can learn ways to care for the earth. Volunteer opportunities include invasives removal, gardening, tree planting, clearing our trails and improving our footpaths. Participate in workshops on backyard composting, hydroponics, and how to plant and care for a tree. Fun activities will be available all day, including bracelet-making crafts, solar science demonstrations, and yoga. Earth Day Activities in Rockland County

FREE Celebrate Earth Day and Annual Blessing of the Soil

WHERE: Catholic Charities Community Serivces of Rockland, 78 Hudson Ave., Haverstraw

WHAT: Family-friendly activities will include a master gardener demonstration, face painting, arts and crafts, clowns, a Tai Chi mini class, a yoga demonstration, and refreshments. One of the highlights of the day will be the ribbon cutting for a greenhouse on the property, the first of its kind in the New York region to be constructed for the benefit a food pantry.
