Alley Pond Environmental Center
Kids ages 6-10 are encouraged to dress up as a a butterfly or a caterpillar as they are led by an APEC Butterfly Educator through various butterfly stations. Activities include making a butterfly shaped sandwich, tattoos, and craft corner, photo booth, and storytelling circle. At the end of this event the children will adopt their own butterfly larva that they can care for and release. A nature hike to look for caterpillars and butterflies is included. Pre-registration is required.

The Alley Pond Environmental Center (APEC), a nonprofit environmental education organization, is dedicated to educating children and adults in the New York metropolitan area, protecting and preserving Alley Pond Park, open spaces and waterbodies, and advocating for sustainable environmental policies and practices.
Alley Pond Park is the home of the Douglaston Estate Windmill, a reminder of their agricultural past.
