Event description:

Every wonder why ice floats in a glass instead of sinking to the bottom? Want to learn why freezing water becomes snow, sleet, ice, or hail?  Learn about ice and the extreme organisms that can survive its chilling effects! Young discoverers will be doing some cool science experiments with dry ice. Kids will learn about extremophiles like lichens and mosses. Participants will take home their own DIY moss gardens. Registration required.

The Alley Pond Environmental Center (APEC), a nonprofit environmental education organization, is dedicated to educating children and adults in the New York metropolitan area, protecting and preserving Alley Pond Park, open spaces and waterbodies, and advocating for sustainable environmental policies and practices.

Alley Pond Park is the home of the Douglaston Estate Windmill, a reminder of their agricultural past.
