Event description:

Archbishop Stepinac High School, ranked as one of the nation’s top 50 Catholic high schools, will showcase its acclaimed academic and extracurricular programs that shape young men for post-secondary success at its Open House, 6 PM, Wednesday, February 13. Stepinac is located at 950 Mamaroneck Avenue, White Plains, New York. Innovation will again be the theme of the early evening session for parents and their children. They will learn about how Stepinac last fall became the only private high school in the tri-state to offer the AP Capstone Diploma™ program, an innovative program that equips students with the independent research, collaborative teamwork, and communication skills that are increasingly valued by colleges. Developed at the request of College Board Higher Education membership, AP Capstone is built on the foundation of two new AP courses – AP Seminar and AP Research –and is designed to complement and enhance the in-depth, discipline-specific study provided through other AP courses. The AP Capstone curriculum fosters inquiry, research, collaboration, and writing skills through the intensive investigation of topics from multiple perspectives. The students started with AP Seminar this school year and will continue with AP Research next year. For students scoring 3 or higher in Seminar and Research and on four additional AP exams of their choosing, they will earn the coveted Diploma honor. Either way, completing Capstone will help students distinguish themselves on their college transcripts. In an increasingly competitive college admissions market, it is important that Stepinac continue on the path of innovative learning to ensure our students remain highly competitive at the post-secondary level. The AP Capstone Diploma program is the latest chapter in Stepinac’s tradition as a standard bearer of curriculum innovation. Previously, it launched the nation’s first-of-its-kind all- digital text book library and the groundbreaking Honors Academy, a unique-in-the-region, three-year personalized learning program that provide provides academically high-achieving students with opportunities to pursue advanced studies in either engineering, health and science, finance and economics or law. Visitors will also have an opportunity to learn more about the acclaimed Stepinac Theatre among whose notable alumni include Oscar winner actor Jon Voight and Emmy winner actor Alan Alda; the championship varsity sports program including the Crusaders football team which won both the New York State titles two years in a row (2017 and 2018) and the basketball team which won its first-ever New York State Federation Tournament of Champions title in 2018, as well as Stepinac’s extensive range of extracurricular programs and services that offer something of interest to every student.
