IN PERSON Family Enrichment Experience: Saturday Morning Lenape Life Program

  • Oct. 17, 2020 through Nov. 28, 2020, Saturdays, 10-11am
  • Bartow-Pell Mansion
  • 895 Shore Road, Bronx
  • All Ages
  • $10

Bartow-Pell’s authentically fabricated Northeast Woodlands wigwam serves as the backdrop for this interactive family program on Lenape culture and lifestyle. It is where history meets social anthropology, earth science, and biodiversity, as well as environmental stewardship. In this outdoor setting, families are invited to sit on stumps from felled trees and learn about shelter, clothing, food, language, and music from a Bartow-Pell Museum Educator. Families will also have the opportunity to view artifacts from the museum’s teaching collection, search for animal tracks, and discuss the treaty that took place under the forest canopy 366 years ago between the Lenape Chiefs and Thomas Pell of Fairfield, Connecticut. Day of Trip Guidelines: Please dress appropriately for an outdoor adventure: i.e., closed shoes or boots, rain gear, long sleeves, and long pants, gloves, hats, etc. Advanced reservations required.
