Africa’s flagship species – elephants, lions, primates, zebra, cheetahs - are some of the most charismatic megafauna on earth. Dr. Tim Davenport, WCS Director of Species Conservation & Science (Africa), has worked on conservation projects for many of these species ranging from designating new reserves on behalf of species of monkey he discovered to documenting and describing all wildlife corridors in Tanzania. Recently, his team successfully relocated zebra to Kitulo National Park to restore its natural ecology. In celebration of International Zebra Day, join this discussion and help us address charismatic species and species conservation, and learn “What it is and why it 'works'. Advanced registration required.

  • The Bronx Zoo is open year-round. We close on the following holidays: Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year's Day, and Martin Luther King Day. Spring and summer are naturally high-attendance seasons, but we encourage guests to visit during fall and winter as well. When the weather cools off, many animals are more active and you'll encounter fewer crowds.

With 265 acres of wildlife habitats and attractions, it's difficult to see the entire zoo in one day. For shorter visits, take a two-hour tour of our most popular exhibits, like Tiger Mountain, Himalayan Highlands, Congo Gorilla Forest, and World of Reptiles. During the warmer months, guests with young children can begin their visit at the Children's Zoo and then stroll Astor Court to meet our sea lions and visit Madagascar! In wintertime, warm up in JungleWorld, our giant indoor rainforest habitat.
