Movies With A View: Akeelah and the Bee

Celebrate the return of Movies with a View and the 21st season of Brooklyn’s beloved outdoor film series in Brooklyn Bridge Park! See Akeelah and the Bee (2006) as part of the 2021 theme “Grit” celebrating underdog stories of human resilience and perseverance. Featuring Keke Palmer, Laurence Fishburne, and Angela Bassett and directed by Doug Atchison, Akeelah and the Bee is a warm, family-friendly story about a young girl from South Los Angeles who tries to make it to the National Spelling Bee. The evening begins with a local DJ set brought to you curated by BK Radio and a short film selected by BAMcinématek. Doors open and music starts at 6pm; movie begins at sundown. Smorgasburg will provide tasty treats and drinks all evening along the Pier 1 promenade, featuring a selection of NYC’s favorite food vendors!
