Did you hear? There’s a new Questioneer! Acclaimed author Andrea Beaty and illustrator David Roberts join forces once again for the latest addition to their bestselling Questioneer series, Sofia Valdez, Future Prez. Meet Sofia Valdez, a Mexican American second-grader at Blue River Creek Elementary School. Every morning, her Abuelo walks Sofia to school . . . until the day that Abuelo hurts his ankle at a local landfill and can no longer do so. Sofia misses her Abuelo and wonders what she can do about the dangerous Mount Trashmore. Then she gets an idea: the town can turn the slimy mess into a park! She brainstorms and plans and finally works up the courage to go to City Hall—only to be told by a clerk that she can’t build a park because she’s just a kid. Sofia is down but not out, and she sets out to prove what one kid can do. Volunteers from Common Cause NY and Make the Road NY join us at this special event to teach kids how they can get involved with their communities like Sofia! Andrea Beaty is the author of the Questioneers series, among other children’s titles. She is an advocate for STEM, and her books have been read around the globe and in space onboard the International Space Station. She lives just outside Chicago. David Roberts has illustrated many children’s books, including the Questioneers series, The Cook and the King, and Happy Birthday, Madame Chapeau. He lives in London. Brooklyn Public Library is proud to co-present with Greenlight Bookstore to celebrate the release of Andrea Beaty and David Roberts, Sofia Valdez, Future Prez. Copies of Andrea Beaty's books will be available from Greenlight Bookstore for purchase and signing after the event. Families will be given seating priority. Seating is limited; first come, first served.
