The Ship We Built: An Interactive Reading

This event has already taken place. Click here for the latest events.

The Ship We Built, noted as the first middle grade novel centering a trans boy to be written by one at a major publisher, is having its first in person release event this September. The book deals with themes of faith, queer love, imagination as a tool for survival, loneliness, and more from 1990s Michigan. Each chapter is attached to a balloon and written by the 10 year old narrator from his bedroom, classroom, and new places he's dreamed of.

The event is located in the basement and will be a multi-media and interactive reading of several chapters of the book with all-ages in mind. This will include a live reading, as well as less structured time for audio, video, art and writing engagement keeping in mind folks with different barriers to traditional forms of reading.
