Queens is the home to graffiti legends who turned a former water meter manufacturing plant into their haven for expression and artistic liberation from a corporatized art world. The name “5 Pointz” was reflective of curator John Cohen (MERES One), who believed the building to be a place where the 5 boroughs of NYC came together to create. This building was recently torn down, which put many Queens residence in a period of mourning of the loss of a cultural hub in their own backyard. Today in the studio, we’ll build off of our base building and begin to cover it in lettering and illustration unrestrained by the limits of paper or canvas.
