Rachel Whiteread’s Embankment series started with a single cardboard box and expanded into an entire room full of white plaster cubes, inspired by a box found in her mother’s house that she recognized from childhood. She used the box as a mold to make a cast, which is usually done to make multiples of a shape or form. Today in the gallery, we’ll be creating expressive containers out of upcycled materials, then using Model Magic to capture the container’s shape in a clay sculpture. Learn a new technique with us while exploring the concept of keepsakes and what items we choose to keep throughout life!
