Flushing Town Hall (circa 1862) is excited to partner with Archtober, New York City’s Architecture and Design Month, the annual festival of architecture activities, programs, and exhibitions taking place during the month of October, and with AIA Queens and Queens Foundation for Architecture! Artists and architects are welcome to join us in a workshop involving deep listening as a key skill for art and architecture, applicable to their work with public agencies, collaborators, communities, and co-workers. Deep Listening is a key skill for art and architectural practice. In this workshop, interdisciplinary artist, writer, and educator Jeff Kasper will facilitate a number of short writing, mapping, active listening, interpersonal dialogue, and group discussion exercises that are designed to bridge the gap between differences and can be adapted for future collaborations. Artists and architects are welcome to join us in a workshop involving listening strategies applicable to their work with public agencies, clients, collaborators, communities, and co-workers. Jeff Kasper is an interdisciplinary artist, writer, and educator working in public art, design, and social engagement. He creates pedagogical tools, text-based projects, social spaces, publications, games, exhibitions, community education, and workshops, often in partnership with organizations. Much of his recent work examines the dynamics of social support, proximity, and safety, with a focus on how people practice care and collaboration, especially in times of conflict and crisis.

The mission of Flushing Council on Culture and the Arts (FCCA) is to present multi-disciplinary global arts that engage and educate the global communities of Queens and New York City in order to foster mutual appreciation.  As advocates of arts equity since 1979, they support local, immigrant, national, and international artists, developing partnerships and collaborations that enhance our efforts.

Flushing Town Hall provides exciting opportunities for kids and families to encounter the arts together.  Their performance series showcases talented professionals from a variety of performing arts and cultures whose shows have proven to be entertaining for audience members young and old.  Their interactive arts compliment these presentations by giving kids and families a fun opportunity to do a hands-on exploration of the show's art forms taught by the performers or Flushing Town Hall teaching artists.
