Investigate the many forms that CLAY can take, exploring its plasticity and texture as well as its ancestral presence across cultures. Over the course of four weeks, students will be invited to create symbolic clay sculptures, like AMULETS, to offer to the future. Every class will include breathing/warm up exercises and object-making exercises inspired in simple hand-building techniques. By the end of the cycle, the group will decide on one piece to offer back to the land (to be placed in the surroundings of GARNER Arts Center), as a gift for everything that we learned together. Masks required. Social distancing observed.

GARNER Arts Center is located 35 miles from Manhattan in the lower Hudson Valley within the Garnerville Arts & Industrial Center, an historic 19th century textile mill. GARNER provides unique and vibrant performance, gallery and creative space and presents artistic programs of exceptional merit for the benefit of a multi-cultural population. It is our mission to preserve the sanctity of the original textile mill buildings and creekside landscape, while offering an inspired setting which honors individual expression.
