Francie Latour Presents 'Auntie Luce's Talking Paintings' at Greenlight Bookstore

Event description:

Award-winning Haitian-American author Francie Latour presents her book Auntie Luce’s Talking Paintings, the story of a Haitian-American girl and the unusual bond she has with her aunt, a painter who lives in Haiti. Every winter, the young girl flies to Haiti to visit her Auntie Luce. The girl has always loved Auntie Luce’s paintings — the houses tucked into the hillside, colorful fishing boats by the water, heroes who fought for and won the country’s independence. Through Haiti’s colors, the girl comes to understand this place her family calls home. Inspired by Latour's encounter with the celebrated Haitian artist Luce Turner, Auntie Luce’s Talking Paintings has been praised by luminaries including Edwidge Danticat, Eric Velasquez, and Ibi Zoboi.  Latour presents her book at Greenlight with an interactive reading along with a coloring activity focused on Haitian heroes. Note: this event takes place at both Greenlight Bookstore locations.
