Description: An entire day of family activities around artist Winfred Rembert's exhibition, "Amazing Grace." From 1-1:30pm, walk around the gallery and talk with scholar Clifton Watson to learn about Rembert's life in civil rights-era Georgia. At 12:30pm or 2pm, take in a Planetarium show, "Follow the Drinking Gourd, Fact and Fiction," exploring whether slaves in the South really used the Big Dipper to find the way north. From 12-3pm, families can participate in one or more drop-in workshops: Leather Art-making led by artist John Ashford, or Felt and Carved Colorful Reliefs led by junior docents. From 2-3pm, storyteller and singer Vienna Carroll will sing gospel songs, and from 3:15-4:15pm, the 25-member Harambee Dance Company, in vibrant costume, weaves together African-based movement, dance, and percussion. All programs are free with museum admission.
