The Roaring Twenties and The Swinging Sixties will explore the similarities in women’s fashion across these two decades. Object pairings with direct visual connections highlight the parallels in high fashion that were inspired by the revolutionary spirits of modernity during the 1920s and 1960s. The exhibition examines these similarities through six thematic sections: Twenties Nostalgia, Dreams and Discontent, Obsession with Youth, Music Mania, Cultural Appropriation, and Mode and Modernity. The Roaring Twenties and The Swinging Sixties is the first virtual exhibition co-produced by The Museum at FIT and students from the Fashion Institute of Technology’s MA Fashion and Textile Studies: History Theory and Museum Practice program, curated especially for an online audience and accessible through The Museum at FIT's website.  Fashion and Textiles Studies: History, Theory and Museum Practice The curriculum offers a vigorous, hands-on approach to the study of fiber-based objects through a close association with The Museum at FIT. Students may elect either a curatorial or a conservation emphasis, but all students are taught basic conservation skills, current collections management methods, and the proper exhibition techniques for costumes and textiles. To supplement their historical and analytical courses, students are required to complete at least one internship, write a master’s qualifying paper based on original research, and take an active role in a yearlong course that culminates in a professional exhibition at The Museum at FIT.
