Roslyn Harbor

All Ages

$10; $4 children, $8 seniors. $2 weekend parking fee

Event description: Born in Indiana, now a resident of Los Angeles, Asad Faulwells intricate mixed-media art focuses on images of Algerian women, especially the freedom fighters who were involved in the 1954-1962 struggle to end French occupation. They are shown against highly-decorative floral and geometric patterns familiar in Middle Eastern art. California-born Chris Johanson gained attention in the 2001 Whitney Biennial and has since been widely exhibited in this country and abroad. Johanson employs an exuberant color palette for simple and imperfect geometric shapes. According to Artforum, his rough-hewn cartoon style taps the late New Age Northern California style. The exhibition runs through June 16.

About Nassau County Museum of Art

Ranked among the nation's largest, most important suburban art museums, Nassau County Museum of Art is located about 25 miles east of New York City in Roslyn Harbor, Long Island, on the former Frick Estate, in the heart of Long Island's fabled Gold Coast. The main museum building, named in honor of art collectors and philanthropists Arnold and Joan Saltzman, is a three-story Georgian mansion that exemplifies Gold Coast architecture of the late 19th century.

In addition to the Arnold & Joan Saltzman Fine Art building, Nassau County Museum of Art includes the Sculpture Park, Formal Garden of historic importance, the Pinetum, an architecturally-significant restored trellis, rare specimen trees, and marked walking trails.
