New York Transit Museum

Brooklyn Heights

Young elementary, Tween

Description: Is it a school? Is it a library? No… it’s a Powerhouse! The 74th Street Powerhouse, built in 1902, is a quiet building on the outside, but on the inside, it once housed giant, noisy machines working night and day to create the electricity that powered elevated trains throughout Manhattan. The Museum will discuss the Powerhouse and other “superhero” buildings in New York City, and then make our own dioramas of “powerful” buildings. For ages 6 and older.
