KowTeff's 12th Annual Juneteenth Celebration

This event has already taken place. Click here for the latest events.

A cross section of the Brooklyn community will come together to celebrate Juneteenth in the heart of Bed-Stuy! Juneteenth (“Freedom Day”) is the oldest known celebration commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. KowTeff, one of Brooklyn’s leading cultural arts institutions with over 30 years of service to the community, brings together performing artists, dance instructors, vendors, and health and wellness experts to curate the 12th annual Juneteenth Celebration.

This outdoor celebration is a full day of empowerment, fun, “edutainment”, health, cultural activities, music and movement for adults and children – all free of charge! Community members will enjoy free Dance Classes in a variety of African Diaspora genres taught by renowned dancers and teaching artists. The Juneteenth Performance will feature an exciting line-up of dynamic artists from the African Diaspora. Entertainment will include live music, dance, spoken word, and much more! The African Marketplace features an assortment of vendors selling hand-crafted and internationally traded goods and cultural products. This year’s Health and Wellness Expo will include well-being resources and activities with a cultural flair, including a special (non-alcoholic) Sip-n-Paint for seniors. The Children’s Zone will offer kid-friendly entertainment and activities, including arts and crafts and a children’s West African dance class, face painting, and balloon art. The celebration will close out with the event’s signature House Music and Dance Celebration, featuring DJ Juwandi and an amazing outdoor block party vibe.

KowTeff’s annual Juneteenth Celebration has become a community staple, where people of all ages come out from all five boroughs to celebrate “Freedom Day” and African heritage, welcome summer, and be enriched, enlightened, empowered and entertained through vibrant, diverse African Diasporic culture.
