About Sands Point Preserve
In the early 20th century, Sands Point Preserve was the home of the Guggenheim family. The buildings on the estate are monuments to the opulent lifestyle for which Long Island’s North Shore is known.
The 216-acre Sands Point Preserve is an interesting mixture of natural and landscaped areas. Diverse natural habitats for a variety of plants and animals are supported on the the Preserve including mature forest, woodlands, fields, meadows, a freshwater pond, glacial cliffs and shoreline on the Long Island Sound.
Visitors are welcome to stroll, hike, jog and/or run on the six marked trails through the woods, around the pond, and along the beach. Trail maps and schedule of guided nature walks are available at the Gatehouse.
