Biologist and ranger Eric Powers knows the Preserve’s wildlife and landscape like the back of his hand after years of leading marvelous nature programs, including the popular Owl Prowl, Pond Exploration, and the fantastic Overnight Wilderness Survival courses. He was just named Long Island Sierra Club Environmentalist of the Year! Ranger Eric will lead visitors of all ages on monthly exploratory walks across the Preserve’s grounds. Each walk is unique. The Preserve will reveal itself throughout the seasons, and your expert guide will share a wealth of information about nature’s wonders. Register at the Gatehouse and meet at Castle Gould’s Clock Tower. Face masks and social distancing are required.
127 Middle Neck Road Sands Point, NY In the early 20th century, Sands Point Preserve was the home of the Guggenheim family. The buildings on the estate are monuments to the opulent lifestyle for which Long Island’s North Shore is known. The 216-acre Sands Point Preserve is an interesting mixture of natural and landscaped areas. Diverse natural habitats for a variety of plants and animals are supported on the the Preserve including mature forest, woodlands, fields, meadows, a freshwater pond, glacial cliffs and shoreline on the Long Island Sound. Visitors are welcome to stroll, hike, jog and/or run on the six marked trails through the woods, around the pond, and along the beach.
