In preparation for the parade children and families can repair their bikes with Recycle-A-Bicycle; get free helmets and fittings with the NYC Department of Transportation; and decorate their bikes with Socrates artists from 11am-3pm. The parade begins at 3pm along Vernon Blvd., and finally, the day of cycling fun concludes with a Waterfront Celebration at Queensbridge Park.
And for the first time, this year, participants can literally let their creativity roll when they compete in the Kinetic Sculpture Challenge. Enter your moveable, human-powered sculpture-vehicle and parade it down Vernon Boulevard, with awards for Best Engineering, Best Art, and Best Costume. See website for details.
