A Year with Children 2021 will showcase selected artworks by New York City public-school students in second through sixth grade who participated in Learning Through Art (LTA), the Guggenheim’s pioneering arts-education program. During LTA’s year-long residency, professional teaching artists partner with classroom educators in each of the city’s five boroughs to design collaborative projects that explore art and ideas related to the classroom curriculum. A Year with Children 2021 celebrates the program’s fiftieth anniversary, telling the story of this unique year and LTA’s history as a hallmark arts education program serving NYC public schools.
This year, LTA was carried out remotely due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, with students participating from the Bronx, PS 86 (Kingsbridge Heights); from Brooklyn, PS 8 (Brooklyn Heights); from Manhattan, PS 28 (Washington Heights), PS 38 (East Harlem), and PS 145 (Harlem); from Queens, PS 219 (Flushing), PS 130 (Bayside), PS 144 (Forest Hills), PS 349 (Jamaica) and PS 317 (Rockaway Park); and from Staten Island, PS 48 (Grasmere).
