Stamford Museum and Nature Center

Tween, Teen, Adult

Description: Garlic mustard was introduced in North America in the 1860's as a culinary herb. Today, it is an invasive species in much of Connecticut, including the Stamford Museum & Nature Center. Left unchecked, it has the potential to become the dominant plant in the undergrowth of forests, greatly reducing the diversity of all species. In honor of Earth Day, volunteer at the nature center for a "garlic mustard pull". The harvested garlic mustard leaves will be offered to local food banks to help feed the hungry. Feel free to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy after the event. This opportunity is open to volunteers age 11 and older. (Ages 11 – 14 must be accompanied by an adult.) Adult team captains for the event are also needed. Advance registration is required.
