Symphony Space

Upper West Side

Pre-school & younger, Young elementary, Tween

Event description: This troupe of women from West Africa plays the djembe, an instrument historically reserved for male players. These female artists have made a name for themselves in choosing to become percussion players, demonstrating their desire to control their destiny and lead themselves out of a life of poverty through art.

The company's high-energy dance and drumming is both fun and inspirational. This performance is a co-production with World Music Institute.
