The Intrepid Museum will present its annual Memorial Day commemoration through a virtual ceremony that invites the public to join the Museum in honoring the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in the United States Armed Forces.
Museum President Susan Marenoff-Zausner will host the commemoration, which will feature the National Anthem performed by Tony Award-winning actress, Stephanie J. Block, who joins the event through a partnership with Waterwell, a civic-minded theater company in New York City. The performance will be followed by remarks from Admiral Karl L. Schultz, 26th Commandant of the United States Coast Guard, and Stuart Gelband, President of the Intrepid Former Crewmembers Association. A ceremonial wreath will be laid in the Hudson River by Navy Commander Jay Yelon. Mr. Yelon was born in Brooklyn and is currently a trauma surgeon at Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, Long Island.
The commemoration will conclude with the playing of Taps from the flight deck of Intrepid by a bugler from the Marine Corps 6th Communication Battalion, followed by a special performance of the National March by the United States Navy Band. ?
