Event description:

Discover the wonders of the universe! Step into the Challenger Center planetarium and see the night sky in a whole new “light”. Travel to the planets and moons of our Solar System. Explore the life-cycle of stars. Learn the ancient myths about the constellations in the sky. Walk on the Moon like the Apollo astronauts. Discover why Pluto is no longer considered a planet. Learn about the Sun, comets, meteors, eclipses, nebulae, galaxies and black holes! Following a one-hour planetarium show that includes a full-dome video as well, participants will take part in a one-hour hands-on astronomy-related project in the Center’s activity room. The planetarium show and astronomy activities are a fun-filled way for the entire family to explore and learn about the wonders of the universe. Public planetarium shows are offered at the Challenger Center on the second Sunday of every month at 2:00 PM. For reservations or more information about this unique experience, call Commander John at the Challenger Center: 845-357-3416, or email: john@LHVCC.com.

The Challenger Center organization was founded in 1986 by the families of the astronauts tragically lost in the Challender 51-L mission. Dedicated to the educational spirit of that mission, Challenger Center programs continue the crew's mission of engaging students in science, math and technology and foster in them an interest to pursue careers in those fields.

The Challenger Center offers visitors a chance to be an astronaut for a day through taking a simulated flight into space--a journey to the Moon, Mars, or a comet. Missions are available for groups from 8 to 34 participants. Small family groups and individuals can attend one of our monthly public missions or public planetarium shows.
