Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Shelter Rock

Teen, Adult

Description: Daisy Khan, Executive Director of the American Society for Muslim Advancement, will examine why muslim women's status differs from country to country. She will explore why six muslim women have become heads of state while others are still unable to drive and how men distort scripture to justify girls /women access to education. Ms. Khan has worked with the American government, the United Nations, and leaders world wide to spread awareness of progressive Islamic values. Her insights will help us better understand the diversity within the Muslim world and enable us to support universal rights of women.

Ms. Khan will be writing a book about muslim women as agents of change - the book will be published by Random House in 2013 or early 2014.

Co-sponsored by the UUCSR Social Justice Committee. Held in the UUCSR Social Hall.
