Shirael Pollack, MSPT, is the owner and director of Watch Me Grow, a pediatric therapy center and children's sensory gym located on Manhattan's Upper West Side and Murray Hill in New York City.
She will be offering a sensory summer camp program for preschoolers (ages 3-5) which caters to the needs of young children with delays and autistic children.
The six-week summer program will be held at Watch Me Grow's East Side location (361 E. 19th St.) from July 8-Aug. 18, 2013, and will focus on socialization, language, and motor skill development by using sensorimotor activities that encourage thinking, laughing and learning within their 4,000 square foot sensory gym. The camp group will also partake in local community outings.
The program will be led by licensed Occupational Therapist Melissa Frey who has over a decade of clinical experience. Each child will be screened beforehand and placed in smaller groups based on their developmental level.
For shy preschoolers who needs to improve their social skills (e.g. a child who doesn't have a playdate), this camp provides an environment where kids can form friendships through fun activities with other children in small groups.
Parental Education: At Watch Me Grow, advocacy and education are key components of the program. While at most child day camps, parents pick up and drop off their kids. Shirael and her team assess individual child needs and identify how to help improve children’s focuses on socialization, language, and motor development through sensorimotor activities. Shirael then provides comprehensive evaluations and suggestions for parents on how they can help their children at home.
