Event description: Families are invited to celebrate the 147-year-old Cemetery's National Historic Landmark designation. Scavenger hunt for ages 7-12 at 2pm introduces kids to important figures in American history, as well as the art, architecture, and natural features at Woodlawn. Kids will search for the grave of the author of Yankee Doodle Dandy, George M. Cohan; seek out one of New York's "Great Trees"; hunt for a stone sculpture of a mouse; and find other interesting things in the beautiful, park-like setting. Parents can enjoy a fall-foliage tour and get the rare opportunity to go inside the mausoleums of some of the Cemetery's most famous people. At 3pm, there will be a musical performance performance by the Bardekova Ensemble including works by some of Woodlawn's most famous musicians, including Duke Ellington and Miles Davis. Woodlawn's National Historic Landmark plaque will be unveiled at 1:00pm. Register at or 718-920-1463, x500.
