Stuart's Fruit Farm Undergoes Decade-Long Protection Project

Westchester Land Trust (WLT) underwent a decade-long, $3 million project to permanently protect Stuart’s Fruit Farm in Somers, NY, according to a press release. The conservation easement ensures that the farm’s 172 acres be used for agricultural purposes only. Had it not been placed, the land could have been sold for residential development.

Manhattan Preschool to Offer New Class

43rd Street Kids Preschool is opening a half-day afternoon class for 3's and 4's in September 2018. Like our morning class, the afternoon session will include swim lessons, creative dance, music, art and gardening as part of our rich, play-based curriculum. The class will meet Monday through Friday from 1PM until 5PM. Early drop off at 12:30 and late pick up at 6PM are additional options. 43rd Street Kids Preschool had been providing high quality early childhood education, at affordable prices, for 30 years. Queens Girls Dream Big with 'Rad Girl Revolution'

In the 1980s, Ozone Park, Queens, native Cyndi Lauper swept Billboard charts with her hit single, “Girls Just Want to Have Fun.” And she’s right—they do. However, they also want to be taken seriously, especially when it comes to their career aspirations. With this notion at the forefront of their minds, two Forest Hills moms, Sharita Manickam and Jen Bruno, hope to challenge gender stereotypes with their in-development hardcover children’s book, Rad Girl Revolution. Rad stands for Rise Above Doubt and Reach Any Dream; and their motivational book will feature 30 inspiring storybook-style photos of real little girls in occupations that are generally male-dominated, or assumed to be, such as Scientist, Judge, Artist, Astronaut, Doctor, and more. A diverse group of girls are featured in the book, with a majority of them from Queens.

NYC Girl Scout Troop Comprised of Girls Living in Shelters Holds First-Ever Cookie Sale

Girls from Troop 6000, a Girl Scout troop made up of girls living in a homeless shelter in New York City, are holding their first cookie sale and there's still time to grab those Thin Mints and Dos-si-dos we love so much. More than 20 members of Troop 6000 will be on hand at Kellog's NYC in Union Square from 4-6pm until April 13 selling the famous cookies. This will be the first time the troop will be able to raise money via a cookie sale and they have set a goal of selling 6,000 boxes!
