At ABC Preschool, we believe all children can learn, and they do so by playing and building on the knowledge and experiences they already have. Teachers ensure learning by creating a rich environment to explore, learn and discover.
At ABC, we provide safe, stimulating spaces that encourages thinking, problem-solving, creativity and teamwork that is play-based, while keeping a developmentally appropriate environment for all. We believe in providing a worry-free zone where children can be fearless to ask questions, try new things, and learn at their own pace.
At ABC, we take pride in providing a safe program where healthy and nutritious meals are served, family values are cherished, culture and language are honored, and multiple instructional approaches address the needs of each child.
ABC’s Pre-k program is one of Queen’s favorite preschool. Parents share how their children blossom under our care and leave our program ready for kindergarten and into gifted programs. ABC Preschool is not your traditional childcare program. We have stood out in the community for years for our small classroom student ratios that allow more individual teacher to student time. Unlike traditional, public school programs, ABC Preschool incorporates multiple instructional approaches, allowing teachers to design their teaching to meet the different learning styles and academic needs each child brings. Innovation and creativity are the hallmarks of our teaching and the foundations of our infrastructure, giving your child all the necessary tools to transition smoothly and successfully into kindergarten. Teachers work with parents to make sure students with special needs and disabilities excel in our preschool are know they are loved. Schools today place different age children together in a cafeteria space fit for over one hundred children at a time. All our class mealtimes from breakfast, lunch, snack time or special event are family style gatherings where children remain in their own classrooms, practice table manners and that it’s wonderful to speak with our friends during mealtimes. Children transition easily for mealtimes after taking care of their personal needs and creating a soothing, safe and peaceful atmosphere that invites quiet time.
Our enriched, full day program focuses on each child’s developmental needs, supporting their growth and guiding them to excel academically, emotionally, and socially. ABC’s educational team partners with parents to help each child meet their milestones and learning goals. Our educational director and teachers use their training and experience to plan high quality lessons to engage each child and captivate their interest. One visit to our school and you will see students engaged in learning from small and whole group meetings, outdoor adventures, gymnastics, play centers set up by monthly themes, children engaged in meaningful conversation, and music feeling each step of the way.
Another important aspect of our program is that many English language learners come to us from all over the world. We create a safe environment where all languages and cultures are embraced and celebrated while children learn to communicate at their pace with other children. Parents and visitors are cheerfully welcomed to visit our school. We believe in keeping the channels of communication open at all times by offering parents many opportunities to stay in touch, share ideas and participate in analyzing assessment data and planning for their child’s learning.

Do you accept children who do not speak English? ABC celebrates the many languages in our community. ABC welcomes all students and our staff will support your child’s first language and use multiple forms of visuals and forms of communication, including working with parents, to help each child thrive in their native language and learn English at their own pace. It’s a wonderful moment to see students learning from one another and classrooms turning into multi-lingual spaces where students learn different languages during play with their friends. We also have an open-door policy for educators who provide Speech Therapy Services for students.
How do I know my child is not just playing, but is learning? Our teachers use the Learning Guidelines for our 2 and 3-year-old and NYC Department of Education Units of Study for Pre-k for All. Alongside of this, our staff attend professional development where they learn about other instructional approaches, strategies and methods such as Froebel that play drives learning, Reggio Emilia where children learn through multi-sensory experiences, Montessori’s childcentered approach to develop the whole child and Waldorf’s views that children need to learn through all their senses and that imagination is at the heart of learning. Teachers use open ended questions to encourage thinking, language development and extended response as well as develop relationships with students to learn all they can about each child and support each child in their individual developmental goals.
Will my child stay in the same classroom all day? ABC Preschool has a beautiful, spacious outdoor playground. All students go out daily for one hour to run, jump, climb, and have fun developing physically. We also have a spacious gym/performing room where all students partake of gymnastics once a week and performing arts one to two times a week. ABC Preschool puts on two amazing performances per school year. PreK students have a beautiful stepping up ceremony where we celebrate their success in PreK and rejoice with them going on to Kindergarten. We have an open-door policy for Educators who provide Physical and Occupational Therapy for students. They enjoy easy access to the classroom, our outdoor playground and gym.
