A Place Where Children Flourish

When you walk through our doors, your family is invited into a vibrant, welcoming learning community where children 3 months through 5 years are happy, have friends, develop self-confidence and learn everything to succeed in Kindergarten. With over three decades of experience, no other early childhood center can match our combination of caring, expertise, modern facilities and huge offerings. We strive to ensure that your child enjoys the best possible learning and developmental experience.

Day Care for children 12 weeks -2 years

Quality child care and education depends on caregiving in a friendly, loving atmosphere. Children learn and grow best in a warm, safe, nurturing environment where they are encouraged both individually and in groups to experiment and make discoveries. Our center places children by age and developmental needs. These groups function independently but cooperatively, following routines appropriate to the development of each child.

Learning occurs in a variety of ways, both planned and spontaneous. The center's program is designed to incorporate many possibilities. We encourage children to make choices and to discuss the activities in which they have participated.

There are opportunities for age appropriate indoor and outdoor play, story time, and routines of physical caregiving, health and competence. Experiences with music & movement, athletics, swimming, arts & crafts, Hebrew and social development are abundant.

The Early Childhood Center @ the SYJCC  provides an environment in which children and their families feel at home and comfortable. An integral part of our philosophy is that we work in partnership with families so that we support their needs, child rearing practices and family values. Our program is based on practices supported by research in Early Childhood Education. Children learn by doing. We have created an environment and curriculum that is developmentally appropriate, supports children's individuality and provides space, materials and activities through which we guide children's learning.

Children are engaged in experiences that promote self-worth, self-esteem and self confidence, while learning to be responsible for themselves and their actions. They are taught to cooperate with their teachers and peers, while understanding their feelings and learning to express those feelings in an appropriate manner. Children grow and feel secure while learning about the world around them.

Toddlers

Our infant program easily transitions into our toddler program.  Our age appropriate toddler program puts an emphasis on social/emotional and sensory development for our children.  Children are encouraged to interact and explore exciting toys and items in and outside the classroom.  Teachers guide children to learn their shapes, numbers, and other skills through songs and hands-on activities.

Nursery School and Preschool

Our 2 year old curriculum encourages the children to move from parallel play to playing with friends, teaching them to be responsive and understanding to one another.  Children learn to communicate through exposure to rich language by immersing themselves in an environment of inquiry, allowing for opportunities to explore concepts of cause and effect, sorting, pattern recognition, and problem solving.

Three Year Olds

As our children enter our three old classrooms, they learn to build independence and understand a greater sense of responsibility.  Through storytelling and Concepts of Print, our threes become exposed to pre-reading and pre-writing skills.  These skills are imperative because the children begin to learn and write their first and most significant word- their names.  We focus on finding opportunities for critical thinking and problem solving skills, which can be essential throughout our children’s lifetime.

Four Year Olds

Our four year old program puts a strong emphasis on getting the children ready for Kindergarten.  Just like our threes, our fours are exposed again to reading and writing skills, and learn their shapes, colors, etc., more elaborately.  The children engage in numerous activities that help strengthen the muscles in their hands to develop suitable pencil grip and emerging letter formation.  Children develop higher level thinking including: reasoning/cognitive skills and problem solving, increasing complex patterns, and classifying by characteristics. Social and emotional growth is also fostered.

An Active Learning Environment

Recent studies have confirmed what we have known for years; preschool children learn best through active exploration rather than drills and memorization.  Visualize your child making friends during circle time, learning new words in a story, mixing colors while painting, experimenting in a science lab, playing in the tumbling room and more…..

Children of all ages are nurtured and will grow their sense of self by engaging in emotional, social, language, physical and cognitive development activities.

Testimonials

Hi Miriam,

I wanted to share that my daughter is having an amazing experience in Miss Sharon/Miss Jane’s class.  She comes home everyday eager to share what she’s learning in school. She’s receiving explicit instruction in letters, sounds, basic math and handwriting. My daughter is the most proud of now being able to write her name, after only 1 month of school. Thank you so much for your ongoing support and genuine love for my child. Truly sad this is our last school year at the ECC.

Love,
Laura Kern
