A Christmas Carol

Follow the miser Ebenezer Scrooge on a journey that teaches him the true meaning of Christmas - past, present and future - in the 27th Anniversary Production of A Christmas Carol. Through December 26; call for show times. $14-$28. Theatre Three, 412 Main Street, Port Jefferson. 631-928-9100.

See the classic version of the tale on stage when Gateway Playhouse presents A Christmas Carol. The show will feature elaborate sets, lighting, rich costumes, special effects, a live orchestra, and a local cast. December 17-23. Show times and prices vary; check website. The Nutcracker

Leggz Ltd. Dance takes audience members on a delightful tour through The Land of the Sweets. Along the way, you'll encounter Clara and her brother Fritz, adorable angels, fearsome soldiers, beautiful ballerinas, handsome cavaliers, and a Nutcracker that transforms Clara's world into a truly magical place. Space is limited; preregistration is required. December 11, 11am and 2pm. $45; $25 children (includes light refreshments and museum admission). Long Island Ballet Theatre presents The Nutcracker, a traditional performance of the holiday ballet by Tchaikovsky adapted from the story The Nutcracker and the Mouse King by E.T.A. Hoffman. After the show, there will be an optional Kingdom of the Sweets reception for children ($7). December 11 at 2pm and 7pm; December 12 at 2pm. $32; $23 seniors and students. For the 29th season, Ohman's New York Dance Theatre presents The Nutcracker. This production is the largest Nutcracker on Long Island, featuring added music, scenes, dances, and a cast of 80 children and semi-professional and professional dancers, including guest artists from the New York City Ballet, the Dance Theater of Harlem Ensemble, and MOMIX, who bring the story of Clara and her Nutcracker Prince to life on stage. December 17 at 11am and 7pm; December 18-19 at 12pm and 5pm. The 11am performance on December 17 is $18; all other performances $35, $28 seniors and children. Renew a family tradition with the world premiere of Laszlo Berdo's The Nutcracker, presented by the Eglevsky Ballet. This holiday favorite unites exciting new choreography with Tchaikovsky's unforgettable score. The cast includes more than 50 talented children who bring Clara's magical holiday journey to life.
