(Aug. 15, 2019) - This fall, Kehillath Shalom Synagogue in Cold Spring Harbor will launch its new youth education approach, The Torah School, for children in kindergarten through seventh grade and their families. This Reconstructionist synagogue, founded in 1969, reorganized its Hebrew School after extensive conversations with its School Committee, current students and parents, and consultants. The Torah School's new educational model will excite and energize the students, their parents, and the entire synagogue community.

(Jul. 01, 2019) - East Woods School eighth graders chose Pal-O-Mine, which provides a comprehensive therapeutic equine program to children and adults in Islandia, as the organization they'd support in a yearlong project for their Leadership Program. The program was modeled on Leadership Huntington, a local program for adults based on a national leadership organization designed to develop community leaders. The students chose Pal-O-Mine after participating in a daylong dismounted equine leadership program based on Sean Covey's Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens, their summer reading assignment and after hearing from the executive directors of seven other local, national, and international non profit organizations. Pal-O-Mine uses horses to facilitate growth, learning, and healing.
(Jun. 26, 2019) - Rachel's Dance for a Cure Foundation will host its first annual Dance Extravaganza on July 27 at Park Shore Country Day Camp. The event will honor the memory of Rachel Antorino, who passed away in August 2018 after battling AML Leukemia for 20 months. Her mom, family, and friends started Rachel's Dance for a Cure Foundation to celebrate Rachel's love of dance, and Park Shore Day Camp, where Rachel had spent summers since she was a little girl, offered to host the first annual Dance Extravaganza.

(Sep. 04, 2018) - On Thursday, August 9 at Usdan Summer Camp for the Arts, Bob Murphy’s Violin Shop in Melville awarded two of the camp's outstanding students new instruments. Violinist Allison Arias, a student at Celia Cruz High School of Music in the Bronx and violist Eliel De Los Santos of Brentwood High School in Brentwood, were nominated by their instructors and Usdan Executive Director Lauren Brandt Schloss for their hard work and dedication to their instruments. Rob Murphy was on hand to present each of the young musicians with new German instruments and a pledge for lifetime repair. The heartwarming presentation took place during final days of Usdan's 50th anniversary season, which ended on August 9.
