Parsons Dance, a contemporary dance company known for its creative, artistic, and engaging choreography, has a new education and outreach partnership with Broadway Dance Center.

Parsons Dance weekly classes began at the center on Jan. 3 and welcome students of all skill levels, ages 13 and older. The company strives to educate students through post-show discussions, master classes, open rehearsals, and studio showcases. Abby Silva, a performer and dance teacher at Broadway Dance Center, says Parsons Dance classes are an opportunity to “introduce the style to a first-timer and hopefully challenge the regular Parsons fan.”

Parsons Dance, a company that spends most of its time travelling around the world, is a challenging program that prepares its dancers for a future in dance with its fast-paced style of teaching. Classes move quickly and make students feel as though they are auditioning rather than taking a class, getting them comfortable for what the real world of dance is like, Silva says. “It’s an opportunity for the company members and David Parsons to teach and inspire young dancers,” she says, “and also get inspired for new creations.”

Since the company spends most of its time on the road, being in residence at Broadway Dance Center gives Parsons Dance the unique opportunity to provide educational outreach.

The center offers Parsons Dance classes every Wednesday.
