Time for Art

Art teacher Amy Vail welcomes children ages 51/2 to 8 years old to her class, I Can Draw!, for step-by-step lessons on how to draw animals, people, landscapes, and master artist works. All Kids Fair

You’ll get the chance to hear more than 20 speakers and visit up to 80 exhibitors of interest to kids and parents – from health professionals to party venues, financial planners, photographers, and private schools. Come with or without kids; there will be classes for all. April 10, 10am-4:30pm, at the Melville Marriott, 1350 Old Walt Whitman Road, Melville. $5; FREE for children 2 and under. 4-H Operation Military Kids

 

 

Make a Hero Pack

Spend a few hours doing something great for children of deployed U.S. soldiers; you and your kids can join the Suffolk 4-H Operation Military Kids/Hero Packs Work Party and help create and fill backpacks to be donated. Backpacks will include toys, stamps, stationary, disposable cameras, and letters from 4-H youth. April 10. 10am-2pm. FREE; donations requested. Pal-O-Mine Equestrian Facility in Islandia, NY

 

Top Picks for Easter!

More than 8,000 eggs filled with prizes, plus pony rides and a petting zoo? That’s hard to beat – but what makes it sweeter is that if you attend the Pal-o-Mine Equestrian Facility‘s Easter EGG-Stravaganza, you’re helping the not-for-profit group raise funds for people with disabilities. $5 admission (extra for some activities). Children ages 12 and under are invited to bring their Easter baskets to the annual Easter Egg Hunt on the Great Lawn in beautiful Westhampton Beach, where the bunny will be hopping around for photos. If magic is up your kids’ alley, then you’ll want to check out Bagels with the Bunny, which includes a craft and a show by magician Don Christian. But you’ll have to hurry, because you must reserve a spot in advance. $5; $3 children. April 9, 10am-12pm. Michaels craft stores host ongoing free or low-cost crafts events. This month, stop in at the workshop room at the Patchogue branch with your children ages 3 and up for a Knack Easter Chick Make-It Take-It workshop, and leave with a cute new decoration. FREE. Cold Spring Harbor Fish Hatchery & Aquarium

 

Fish, Turtles, and Amphibians, Oh My!

Live animal presentations at the Cold Spring Harbor Fish Hatchery & Aquarium, April 19-21, will include fish, turtles, and amphibians. Hoppin’ Down the Bunny Trail

Peter Rabbit and Benjamin Bunny can’t resist the delicious vegetables on the McGregors’ farm, no matter how many times they’re warned to quit trespassing and stealing the bounty. It will take the best efforts of Peter’s sisters and parents to get them out of trouble. Theatre Three’s annual showing of The Adventures of Peter Rabbit is a delight for young kids and parents.
