Camp W Summer Day Camp Opens in Melville

Camp W, a new summer day camp, will host its inaugural season this summer. The traditional summer day camp in Melville focuses on campers forming lasting friendships with each other.

Camp W is a new traditional summer day camp that focuses on helping campers build friendships with each other, using the motto “where friendships are made.” The camp will offer all of the traditional camp activities, including sports, arts and crafts, and a variety of other classes such as game animation and model making. But, a big part of camp is group activities and team building, which is essential for children to build bonds, director Evan Wofsy says. Wofsy says each Friday students will put on a group performance surrounding the theme of that week.

Camp W will run from June 29-Aug. 21st for children ages 4-14. Campers have the option of attending Monday through Friday or Monday through Thursday for any number of weeks throughout the summer. Camp runs from 9am-4pm, and offers before care from 7am-9am and after care from 4pm-6pm at no extra charge. The camp also offers a half-day option and bus transportation.

“We are aiming to help the working parent,” Wofsy says.

The camp will be held at Birchwood Intermediate School in Melville, but it has no affiliation with the South Huntington Union Free School District. Camp W will use the school’s classrooms, gym, cafeteria, and grounds to run its programs and activities, Wofsy says.

Camp W will host an open house on Saturday, April 18, from 2-4pm at Birchwood Intermediate School.
