CE Week Honors Young Student Innovators at 10 Under 20 Award Ceremony

NYC’s brightest gathered at CE Week’s “10 Under 20: Young Innovators to Watch” award ceremony to be honored for their achievements in technological advancement.

From cleaning robots to life-improving mobile apps, 10 Under 20 innovators have done it all and contributed to technology in a big way. Each year, CE Week, a mid-year tech industry gathering today’s newest technologies and products, honors ten students under the age of 20 who have applied their knowledge of STEM to create something new and useful.

This year, on June 23 at The Metropolitan Pavilion, members of the tech industry and last year’s 10 Under 20 winners presented awards to the young inventors. Many of the winners were inspired by family members and friends going through life changing events, as well as their own life experiences. This year’s winners include Micah Green, a 19-year-old Cornell student, who created Maidbot, a robot designed to assist room attendants in cleaning hotel rooms. Green worked as a room attendant in a hotel and experienced firsthand issues with cost, timeliness, and even injuries that acquired on the job, that he wanted to fix.

“The system just felt broken to me,” said Green. “It’s a super tough job and it makes a lot of sense for robots to get involved.”

Other winning innovations include PillDrops, an iOT platform for pill-taking, Kinet-X, a program aimed to fix problems in STEM education, a prosthetic hand, and Timeless, an app to help people with Alzheimer’s remember their loved ones.

“It’s definitely great to see so many innovative ideas come to life as a result of such creativity,” said Sharon Lin, 10 Under 20 winner and creator of StuyHacks, a student-run hackathon aiming to expose high school students to technological innovation. “No matter what other people say about our generation we really do have the power to make great change in the world.”
